It Works is a direct sales company founded in 2001 by Mark and Cindy Pentecost that deals with skin care and nutrition products. The privately owned company got its breakthrough because of its flagship products like the Ultimate Body Applicator and other anti-aging and nutritional supplements designed to make it easy for consumers to stay fit and healthy. The company, which employs over 10,000 people, generates over $500 million in annual revenues annually.

I totally agree, Mary. You can lose soooo much more just by opening up a small storefront business. I was in the Spa Industry and then the economy tanked in late 2008. I did not renew my lease in 2009. Lost my several hundred thousand dollar build-out. Lost so much more than taking an MLM business seriously. Even if I would have front loaded on a ton of product, I still would have been better off. People spend $750 and get some business cards then do nothing and blame MLM.
Writing – Whether it is blog content, articles, or business letters, this way of monetizing your skills has become quite common. Micro-job sites like Fiverr allow you to post your skills as “gigs” that you sell for a price, usually a few dollars. Sites like Freelancer and Upwork are “business to consumer” sites where sellers are linked with buyers. Most of the time jobs are awarded based on skills, qualification, buyer needs, and bids made by the seller (you, the freelancer) to get the buyer’s work done. Other sites screen you by requiring you to provide a sample before you are graded and placed in the appropriate writer level based on your writing skill.
Thanks for this post. Very helpful. I do like direct sales; one reason for this is that it helps keep alive that age-old tradition of people interacting face-to-face (rather than mainly through texting and social media). For that reason, I think MLMs should target the lonely Millennials. Anyway, I was a member/distributor of Advocare for over 10 years and still miss the products and the activities in the company, now that I am temporarily out. I still plan to sign up again when I can afford it (long story–I’ll spare you). I am now involved in Melaleuca, and I must say in their defense that Melaleuca’s products are actually not overpriced. Because Preferred Customers are not only not expected, but also NOT ALLOWED to turn around and sell the products at the retail price, everyone pays the same low prices. (Granted, one can indeed go to the website and buy directly from the company if they do not want to become a Preferred Customer. Why would someone do that when the annual membership is only $19? Only if they do not want to commit to the minimum monthly requirement for Preferred Customers.) Public, keep this in mind! Don’t be fooled by the rebels who are selling old Melaleuca products on Amazon for way above the retail price!! You’re much better off buying fresh products directly from the factory, even if you pay retail price. Just sayin. My big question: What about Tupperware? I have been a Tupperware consultant for about 6 months, and I have found it to be extremely difficult to keep business going. The directors training me have said that Tupperware is the second most widely recognized brand name in the world, second only to Coca-Cola. If that is the case, why is it so hard to find people willing to host Tupperware parties? Why does it seem so hard to sell? Also, is it just me…Or, does Tupperware’s compensation plan stink?

There truly has never been a better time to join this life-changing company. You have the opportunity to make this business what you want it to be: a shoe fund, a mortgage payment, a vehicle payment, home-makeover, pay off debt, etc.  The anti-aging industry is worth over $250 Billion, and the sky is the limit when it comes to building your own successful business as a Rodan+Fields consultant.
Hi Holly! Have you considered adding Paparazzi Accessories to your list? They are a new company (only 3 years old) and still growing but with great $5 jewelry and accessories I can’t keep enough in stock! Women just love to buy and wear it. Kits start at $99 and go up to $499. If you would like more info, let me know! Thanks for another great article!
Hi. Great post and very informative as I did not know some of these existed. I would like to also add Arbonne to this list. My sister-in-law introduced it to me 3 years ago and it is still relatively unknown (especially since she was the only one I knew of that was talking about it and selling it). After two years of getting samples from here and hosting my own free facial party/girls night, I was hooked. The products are very impressive and all natural/vegan. I recommend everyone at least get a facial to try. We sell skincare, haircare, makeup, and even nutrition, all of which I have tried and highly recommend.
I am surprised not to see Thirty One on your list. I know you are hearing a lot about it locally but we are struggling to grow team members west of the Mississippi! Since your blog has nationally known any exposure would be great! The other KEY fact about Thirty one http://www.mythirtyone.com/amberjdavis is we are expected to triple in size this year! This is important if you want to promote to management in a DS company! We are only 10 years old and a baby in the industry! Starting Feb.16 YOU can start for $99 and receive a $99 rebate! Basically, start for free! I defiantly need to consider an ad with your page!
I've been with Young Living for 2.5 years and thankfully have not experienced anything like what Beth posted above. My team is incredibly supportive and willing to share and help. You technically do not ever have to make a purchase after your initial purchase. However, to remain an active member to receive the wholesale discount, you need to make a $50 purchase within a year of your initial order. Of course there's more to it than ordering $50/year if you want to build a business, but there aren't any secrets or hidden fees.
Hi! If you love vintage inspired jewelry and are passionate about promoting products that are made here in the USA, come see the handcrafted artistry of Jewel Kade at my website http://maryfriedman.jewelkade.com and also read up on Janet Kinkade, the amazing woman behind the company. I am an Executive Stylist for JK and we are expanding steadily throughout the US and Canada. We are also on Pinterest and Janet has her own blog. Our newest line includes custom wall canvas art as well! Contact me through my website and I will be happy to help you get more information and/or help you get started!
This can seem like an overwhelming task initially. Just because of the sheer volume of direct sales companies that are out there. Let's break it down into an easier task. I've found over the years from my own personal experience, as well as talking with 100's of other men and women in direct sales that by asking yourself certain questions, you can narrow down your search immensely. And take your time – mull it over. Sleep on it.
First of all, Avon “has” been. Second, Avon really needs to work on their appeal to a younger generation. Third, Avon makes it difficult for representatives to make any money unless you are purchasing a ton of catalogs and knocking on doors. The company really needs to allow representatives to advertise online, and I don’t mean spamming friends on a Facebook or Twitter feed.
MLM restructures the traditional business model — manufacturer to retail shop to customer — such that sales agents working for the manufacturer sell directly to customers, bypassing the retail shop altogether. MLM companies can then convert customers into advocates for their products and possibly even sales agents. Because there is no retail store for the products they sell, MLM agents typically work from their homes, interacting with customers in the community or, more often, over the internet.
Their product lines also include girls and toddler/baby sizes. But here's the bad news: consultants only earn a 25% commission so if you sell around three pairs of leggings in an order you're only earning about $13. If you can hustle your products and remember that that's all of the work you really have to do unless you decide to also host trunk shows, then the potential to earn a steady side-income is there.
Hi Loni, i am not sure if you found a company yet or not but i think seacret would be a great opportunity for you there just branched out into the direct sales market about two years ago and do not have many reps yet compared to other already familiar companies. if you would like more info feel free to reply or visit my site https://www.seacretdirect.com/katelynnr123/en/ca/

Since joining Mary Kay, I’ve met some absolutely incredible women. We’ve shared successes and failures in our weekly meetings. My sales leader has even customized the weekly meetings when I’m traveling so I can meet with my group by webinar. I don’t feel alone as a Mary Kay consultant I know I can reach out to my friends who are also Mary Kay reps, whenever I’m having difficulties. They completely understand me and help me get through whatever barriers I’m having in my business.
Unlike many MLMs that sell products directly to consumers, Digital Altitude sells a business system to entrepreneurs in the form of courses and methods that teach them to effectively market their own companies. While many of the packages can cost thousands of dollars, Digital Altitude offers a $1 trial, making the risk to try its product very low for the consumer.
Well it seems like forever, but isn’t that how long ago 1993 feels? That’s when this MLM popped its head onto the scene and they haven’t gone anywhere since.  This is how you build a company from the ground up. Step 1: trustworthy name brand and Step 2: strong foundation. With these solid steps businesses can go anywhere, and a half billion in yearly sales won’t hurt either.
I agree with Jeannie. You can build a solid foundation from your warm market & then it snowballs. It is hard work & not a get rich industry. I to am with dōTERRA which is such a product driven company that 80% of wholesale customers are just customers because the products work. I love how everyone I have interacted with in my Upline are so driven by a purpose much bigger than amassing wealth! After almost 20 years of business experience (corporate sales & real estate), I can proudly say that I’ve never worked in such an edifying & encouraging environment. I can’t remember even 1 of my former bosses sitting down with me to chart a plan to bring me up to their level or even to take their current spot on the corp ladder – too much insecurity in that world & after all only 1 person makes it to the top of that pyramid. I love that in Network marketing you can easily surpass the rank & income of the person above you if you work with great purpose. The mentoring available & the personal development which happens in this environment is incredible!
Seriluna manufactures spa products for everyday use that contain the safest, most effective ingredients and are meant to restore balance and enhance natural beauty. The starter kits, priced at $99 and $199 contain full-size product samples, brochures, order forms and promotional materials. You’ll also receive a free website for three months, with $10 per month charge after that.
My name is Lesley Mcquade and I am a skin care consultant with Rodan+Fields and I have been with the company for a year. We just launched in Canada in Feb but have been in the US for 6 years. We only do online sales and I help women chose the right regimen for them. We have 4 regimens for acne, anti-aging, red sensitive skin and sun damage. We have an amazing community of women, some earning enough money to retire due to our residual income model. We even have million dollar earners. We get designer jewelry, clothes, and purses and have a Lexus car program. Luxury trips to Maui, Greece, and more! Friend me on facebook, let's network!
Awesome benefits to Distributrs like monthly gifts, travel and vacation incentives. I am bold to say that Swissgarde is the best MLM business in Nigeria. A lot of pyramid schemes come into this country and promise get rich quick compensation plans. No wonder they fizzle out in a short period of time after swindling people of their hard-earned money. Swissgarde has been here for over 16 years, with effective herbal products for health and beauty. The monthly pay out is so transparent that you can easily calculate your take home even before it arrives. Distributors get lots of incentives even while making money for themselves. It's an awesome opportunity for anyone who loves network marketing. You can contact me for more information.

Lu La whaaa? If you love bright, flashy and fun leggings then take a look at Buskins Leggings which sells patterned leggings for a fraction of the price of other MLM clothing companies and offers customers the opportunity to find and buy their favorite prints from the your own personalized Buskins website. That means you don't have to spend days sorting through inventory and creating outfits out of mismatched patterns and sizes and hope that they catch one of your FB friends' eyes and budget before shipping off bundles of product. You're busy. You don't have time for that. (Time is money, remember?)

The gift company Thirty-one was founded in 2003. They offer a huge number of attractive home organizing and personalized products including storage bins, purses and totes, wallets, lunch and picnic thermals, and customizable pillows and wall art. Consultants make 25 percent on every sale through face-to-face, online, and catalogue parties. Starter kits are $99. If you become a leader to new consultants, you'll earn a percentage of their commission as well. There's also a monthly subscription fee for a personalized website and emails to customers.
A big hello to everyone! I just launched a home based biz last month that had tremendous success my first month!! It was founded in 2005, but is mostly based on the east coast and just now moving west. When I came upon the website I was mesmerized that women could custom design their own handbags. To think that they could walk away from a party with a custom item to their taste and be proud of it was really appealing to me. In addition, all the handbags are made in the USA one purse at a time so it supports our economy. In my first month I was #3 in personal sales in the company and two women joined me. I believe that’s a true testimony to this ground floor opportunity and that women love customizing handbags. Please visit my website madisonhandbags.net/janagates/ I would love to answer any questions for you and help you in being the first to launch your market area as well. : )

The structure of MLMs is very similar to a pyramid scheme. This doesn’t mean that all MLMs are pyramid schemes, but some certainly are. Those interested in pursuing a career in multi-level marketing should do research before joining a particular MLM. Generally speaking, if the bulk of the money you stand to earn comes from recruitment rather than direct sales, it’s wise to be very cautious.

When you think about making money from home, one of the first things you need to decide is how much you want to make and how much time you have to give it. There’s a big difference between looking a full-time at-home job, running your own business on your own schedule, and doing one-off tasks that pay a little bit here and there. Let’s take a look at some of the things you can do at each of these levels of “commitment.”
Im glad that I have found your blog. I came here through google search, and I have been reading all the reviews and comments on DSD, and honestly speaking I have been convinced by your explaination. I have submited my email address recently and I think I am only one step behind to join your team, and I am thinking to do this together with my wife. Just one question though: Is it possible to use my wife Credit Card for the payment, but I will use my name for joining your Team site and Facebook group, as well as the refferal program if later I decide to join thereferal program as well. Thank you in advance and looking forward to your reply.
Damsel in Defense is about equipping women with the tools to not only keep them safe but also to give them the confidence to know that they have a way out if they ever feel threatened. I recently joined USI Tech a company that has been in business already for some time and it may seem like an odd choice for me to jump into something that is not in pre-launch but the fact is : this is not like most other online businesses. Let me be clear, this is not a revshare. I moved away from revshares due to their shorter and shaky lifespan in the past couple of years. What we are looking at here is a long term, a real, stable and proven company that excels in IT technology, building trading software to be more precise. For some time now the team behind USI Tech have been trading on the Foreing Exchange Market but their services were only open to the high players, the serious investors (with a minimum entry threshold of 100 000 euros). This was an exclusive, invitation-only service that has provided great track record over time, building their brand and securing their place on the market. Later they were approached by Mike Kiefer and his friend Horst Jicha to form what later became USI Tech and this is how it all started. Their business has now grown a lot and reached the mainstream where the competition is stiff and companies are looking at new ways of expanding their member-base. Which brings USI Tech to my attention now, as they recently rolled out a new division to their brand, structured around Bitcoin trading and mining, with packages starting at 50 euros and with an impressive multi level marketing affiliate plan. The company is planning another very exciting new product very soon, so this is what we can expect in near future. The vision is for a long-term passive income and they have a history already with many a happy customer and an impeccable image in the industry. CEO Joao Fernandez Severino is from Portugal and is the brains behind the Expert Advise Software product. Him and his partner, co-owner Ralf Gold, have been trading and developing the software for the past 8 years predominantly for private VIP clients until they were approached by network marketing guru Mike Kiefer and his business partner Horst Jicha, who became the founding members of USI Tech and structured the company around their vision for a bigger scale business venture that we are seeing today. The compensation plan is another great feature of the business, it is unilevel with 10% commissions on direct referrals and 3% on indirect (these can go 12 levels deep provided you obtain a license and qualify for all) and luckily we have a guaranteed spillover which is something very rare in this industry. I have been in many mlms and matrix systems where you have to hit targets and volume is the key to your bonus payouts, but in this case we dont have to worry about these, such complicated twists and limitations are absent from the USI Tech is affiliate program and that makes it ever more appealing.comprehensive webinar with the CEO of the company and I would like you to take the time and watch the whole video so that you can understand the reasons why I am so excited to add this great opportunity to my portfolio Here is a presentation and interview with one of the owners:

Ben Thataway, a CEO benefits forever off of his employees and the employees can spend a lifetime and never make the kind of money they can make in network marketing. I know someone personally that beat out 80,000 representatives, did not join the company untli 3 years after it launched and became the top income earner. What you’ve heard, or what you think you know about network marketing is false.

When I first joined I only planned to be a consultant until we got back on our feet after my husbands job loss. But, I fell in love with the mission of the company, the products, and all of the friends I had made along the way. Plus no 9-5 job can compare to the flexibility of direct sales! Now, I have an amazing team who is truly helping make a difference in the world.
In order to find success with any of the top MLM opportunity, it comes down to finding a company that is the right fit for you. There is a lot to consider in the decision-making process. How long has the company been around? What is the compensation plan like? Is it an opportunity that you can feel passionate about? The answers to your questions will ultimately determine your future.
Hello, I didn’t see Linen World and More listed above as one of the direct selling companies from home. Well, I am an Independent Linen World Consultant. Linen World company has been around for 35+ years providing our customers with quality items that you should see in every home. Linen World has great household items wrapped up in one exciting website. We have a lot to choose from.
I have been with Avon for 20 years and I have loved every minute of it! The start up fees are actually $25. $50, or &100. Your choice which kit you purchase. Also, we have one of the most lucrative earning plans since we can earn from 20% all the way to 50%! We have had people come and go, the people who stay, as with any other direct sales company, are the people that treat it as a business instead of a hobby. I like Avon because we have a little of bit of everything, and we will be adding a health category next year! Cannot wait to learn about this next month at rep fest!
Thanks for looking into all of these companies. I am a stay at home mom of an almost 4 year old and a 1 year old. I started with Wildtree when my oldest was 9 months old and I get out of it what I put into it. Some months work out well to do parties and work harder on my business. Other months, my family needs more of me and my business goes on the back burner...and that's okay. People are still using the products, therefor running out, and reordering more.

Hello, I loved reading all this info, it was so helpful. I want badly to get out of the 2 hour commute and hours of being stuck in an office. I am a maker, a fiddler, I need a change. I am an RN and very interested in great health products. I want to find a company I can love and be proud of the products. I have seen something called 7.2 wellness ( 7point 2) but have not found anyone actually using it or selling it. Has anyone heard of this one?
Busting out into a world where you are met with travel bloggers, hotel jumpers, and digital wanderers, seems to me that #wanderlust had to be one the best ideas ever…out of the MLM industries.  A lot of people are willing to work far away and alone, and a big reason is because people want to travel and see the world. Therefore, a remote income business with a travel MLM company just seems like the right move.   World Ventures came out with a solid effort in the travel niche, and was named as one the incorporation 5000’s fastest growing companies 2 times in a row.

Five years after leaving corporate America to be a full-time mom, Carrie started selling specialty foods to try to earn money to buy a new car. Her exhibit at a women's expo had basically zero foot traffic, but she noticed a booth with bras was packed. "The rep offered to fit me, and when I came out of the dressing room and checked the mirror, I looked like I had lost 10 pounds," says Carrie. "Who doesn't love that?"
This company isn't cheap to join: the least expensive kit costs a whopping $499 and goes up to $1000.00 from there. Each starter kit contains everything you need to start your business plus products to familiarize yourself with the line and share with friends and family as you build up your clientele. The compensation plan isn't too simple either and you'll want to fully look it over before committing to the company, but if you're ready to hustle your butt and put your all into marketing Nerium's superior products then there's great potential to earn a steady and comfortable income.

Simply You touts itself as a fun, fashionable, affordable jewelry company. With a $199 starter kit, you’ll receive goodies that value over $1,000, including 20 pieces of jewelry, your own website, online retailing, e-newsletters for customers, annual national convention opportunities and ongoing training programs. You can also get an additional supplement kit with 9 pieces of jewelry for $99.
