If you want to learn about the wonderful (and massive) world of internet marketing from the pros, Digital Altitude is where it’s at. Their products might cost up to $10k+, but you’re getting access to a toolbox of pure gold. Then there’s their commission rate…up to 60%. Just take a second to think about what a 60% commission rate on a $10k+ product looks like. Not bad, huh?
First of all, Avon “has” been. Second, Avon really needs to work on their appeal to a younger generation. Third, Avon makes it difficult for representatives to make any money unless you are purchasing a ton of catalogs and knocking on doors. The company really needs to allow representatives to advertise online, and I don’t mean spamming friends on a Facebook or Twitter feed.
Great article! Tons of valuable info to get people going. My daughter recently became a Young Living Essential Oil Representative and she loves it so far. Her sons have autism and the oils work great to help calm them down and also she rubs some on the belly of the one who has gastrointestinal problems and it helps him so much! My daughter made an awesome explanatory video about two of the start up kits. One was 160.00 and the other was 200 and something. I can see the difference in my daughter and my grandson who both smile a lot more. Thanks for sharing.
This company also offers, among the majority on this list, one of the greatest opportunities for big money. Glassdoor reviewers give it high marks and those I know who sell the product really seem to enjoy doing so. But success with Rodan and Fields absolutely hinges on your ability to invest time, enthusiasm, and of course, money into the product. Social networking is a must. As I've said with a few of the other companies on this list, I also personally see a locale aspect to success in selling this product. I live in a place where most people earn a low-medium income and I know this stuff would be a hard sell--not because it doesn't work, but because most people around here wouldn't be able or willing to spend that much money on skin care. If you're in a predominantly wealthy area and network with people who really care about appearance and skin care (say, in a big city) though, this is a company worth looking into.

Backstory: In 1999 Ginny left her full-time job in hospice management when the family moved from Arizona to Kansas so that Doug could take a new job. Bored one afternoon, she browsed through a Silpada catalog that belonged to her sister-in-law. "Halfway through, I already had a $350 wish list," she says. So Ginny decided to become a rep to earn some free bling and hopefully make friends. She took $1,000 from savings to purchase display jewelry, conservatively calculating that she'd need 12 parties to replenish the account. Her first party yielded $1,500 in sales, $450 each in commission and free jewelry, and six more bookings. Doug said, "Something tells me we've got a good thing going here."
#4- Set goals and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone- One of the big things that keeps people from getting their goals is being afraid! Signing up for a direct sales company and achieving success might push you a little outside what you are comfortable with, but that’s ok! Take baby steps and keep your goals in mind, that will help you push yourself!
I’m with LifeVantage and TeaLife. Both great companies to work with. LV we have 6 ways of being paid..commissions plus residual income on something no one else has. Big pharmacy is trying to synthetically create what we have in drug form that will have side effects. But we are natural. TeaLife is organic loose teas that are so yummy! 30% commissions on teas and 20% tea accessories. I order from both these companies as well because I believe in them 100%. If anyone has any questions please email me: dawnmahaney1@outlook.com
Considering their products are botanically based with an ingredient policy that prohibits many of the chemicals and fillers Mary Kay and Avon still use in their own products, I’d say they’ve established a business for men and woman who are truly serious about the health of their skin, not just the evenness of their complexion. A little research goes a long way.

Diets…fad diets, new diets, old diets…it’s an endless story especially in the 2000’s, and this company is one of those companies.  The FDA had a run-in with these guys and they are not in the greatest standings with the BBB either, which seem to be the norm with weight loss pills of the “magical results” variety.   Well the good news for this business is that they’ve managed to keep trending for 5 years (that’s a pretty good streak), and the company reps are earning a colossal 50% in commissions.
Hi Jesse, That does help some…thanks for answering my questions. My other questions are: I am not connected with nearly as many people as it sounds like you are. How can I be successful in this business? Also, morally I struggle with charging someone more money for something that they can get somewhere else? I know…not much of a business acumen. Lol thanks,
This was the most useless, uninformative, article I have wasted my time with. I'm scratching my head right now, as I thought I was clicking on an article that someone actually did research of "the top 20 best direct sales company's", not : "um, I know nothing about direct sales, nor did any research but I will name 20 companies, I may or may not know anything about".... numbering them, then writing paragraphs of blah, blah, did not even bother googling company for facts, but you could, as I'm not that smart. I really hope you don't get paid for crap like this and if you do .... please share that secret. I would love to write articles (I would even do legit research and be knowledgeable) and get paid doing so. ** 100% serious if you are making $$ off this article please share your secret, as this is a very disappointing, misleading article full of paragraphs of crap nonsense from you. I initially clicked as I was an independent consultant for Partylite (surprised not mentioned however knock off cheap quality scentsy was) and looking if PL was still the best option to make $ PT and possibly get information on 20 companies that "are the best" with info like start up costs, commission %, pyramid formed companies vs non, web site maintenance costs, consumer interest, background info more specific than they have been around since the 1800s?!? SMH... what a waste of time to read this. If I Google PL it gives me that info and you misled me to think you did the research for me. So please let me know how I can make $ after I do it by writing a better article then this. Good luck!

Yeah you can kind of tell what this company is all about just from their name. It is one of those currently trending companies with their anti-aging business opportunity, where the company boasts about “selenium” being the minerals of all minerals to help many immune system and thyroid functions.  The company has steady development (with revenue up to $156 million per year, up at a rate of 16%), though they are unable to take over the market.  They are just in a market with too many big named competitors (i.e. Nerium, Jeunesse).
Five years after leaving corporate America to be a full-time mom, Carrie started selling specialty foods to try to earn money to buy a new car. Her exhibit at a women's expo had basically zero foot traffic, but she noticed a booth with bras was packed. "The rep offered to fit me, and when I came out of the dressing room and checked the mirror, I looked like I had lost 10 pounds," says Carrie. "Who doesn't love that?"

MLM and direct selling programs also offer very low barriers into entrepreneurship, often providing training, support, and ample encouragement along the way.  As retirees begin to realize they need activities that keep them busy, relevant, in good health, and connected to others, the time, energy and cost to participate in these kinds of companies make them very appealing to large segments of the population caught up in these dynamics.

Oh, Arbonne. In the past I have had several friends and acquaintances become Arbonne consultants. Some were successful, some were not. It really came down to the time and energy they were willing (and most importantly, able) to invest in this company. Those with young kids failed. It's time consuming and requires a lot follow up with potential customers.
Origami Owl doesn't seem to be a real time-taker-upper and should suit busy or new moms just fine. Honestly, the lockets seem pretty youthful to me and many of them I can't actually see buying and wearing, even at twenty-five (but maybe that's also because my kids would yank that sparkly charm right off my neck) but they'd make a great gift for my middle-school-aged niece and the post earrings would work with my lifestyle. Origami Owl also offers charm bracelets and lanyards (say, for key-cards) and with a product that's so customizable, this would be a great opportunity for fun, bubbly sellers and their friends.
Start making money by promoting THE top brand in baby carriers that has been rapidly growing its store by including quality baby products parents can rely on. Ergobaby revolutionized how we carry babies back in 2002. Now, with their affiliate program you can refer sales and earn commissions! Do you wear your baby in an Ergo Carrier? If so, when friends ask about it, share your affiliate link with them!
My advice to someone looking into DS is to find something that you actually love and know that you could share with other people, not sell it to them, but share with them why you love it. I do fairs and events and I share with people how amazing these little hair clips are. I get excited about them and it shows. 90% of the women who try them on, end up buying them because they love them. So find something you LOVE and not something just to sell.
I am with Mannatech, an 18 year old global home-based business in the exploding wellness industry which has over 1 million associates & growing, 70 patents, easy duplicable system in 20 countries including USA, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand & South Africa, no deliveries, work around your own families commitments, full training, travel holiday incentives to be won, a rewarding business that makes a difference in other people's lives.... As well as your own.
Everything Happy is a new Direct Sales organization that sells an amazing and growing collection of Children’s products. The company was started by a 7 year old boy who wanted to bring smiles to children all over the world and after watching his sisters play with their stuffed animals and blankies, he came up with the idea for Happy Blankie and lie of incredibly soft blankies in the shape of animal faces with huge smiles on them. As our company developed we added stuffed animals and clothing and plan to add much more into the future! But, the most amazing thing about Everything Happy is the Mission of One to Love, One to Give. For every item we sell, we donate one of the exact same item to a child in need. We have donated thousands of products across the US and all over the world.
Writing – Whether it is blog content, articles, or business letters, this way of monetizing your skills has become quite common. Micro-job sites like Fiverr allow you to post your skills as “gigs” that you sell for a price, usually a few dollars. Sites like Freelancer and Upwork are “business to consumer” sites where sellers are linked with buyers. Most of the time jobs are awarded based on skills, qualification, buyer needs, and bids made by the seller (you, the freelancer) to get the buyer’s work done. Other sites screen you by requiring you to provide a sample before you are graded and placed in the appropriate writer level based on your writing skill.
This company unbelievably made it on this list…they should not be here.  In reality, they probably should not even be operating a business following the beating they took by the SEC and the FBI in the year 2007.  Still the comeback they made was huge! The evidence is in the income disclosure statement, where it can be seen that $76k yearly was made for full-time, proven representatives.
In order to find success with any of the top MLM opportunity, it comes down to finding a company that is the right fit for you. There is a lot to consider in the decision-making process. How long has the company been around? What is the compensation plan like? Is it an opportunity that you can feel passionate about? The answers to your questions will ultimately determine your future.

Delicious, yet simple and easy to prepare, that's the vision behind Tastefully Simple's gourmet food line. Consultants can make money through in-home shopping parties, selling products, and sponsoring other consultants. The startup kit is $170 and consultants earn 30 percent in commission. Tastefully Simple is a member of the Direct Selling Association.
This was the most useless, uninformative, article I have wasted my time with. It's only $10 to join, and if you want to buy a kit with inventory the price goes up from there, but not by much, and consultants earn 30% of sales. What I can't tell is whether you're able to sell straight from the site or if you're required to carry inventory, and my honest opinion is that you're not going to make a huge or steady income with this company because the product lines aren't refined enough to garner a cult following like some of the other direct sales companies out there. But I've added it to this list for three reasons:
Because anyone can do it! I started the business after I had my 4th baby and was able to do so much of the business from my smart phone. But it was also easy to meet up with other moms for a play date and share the oils. Many moms are looking for natural options to help their families and essential oils are perfect. They can help babies sleep, give moms a natural option when they feel overwhelmed, help with the immune system, and so much more! Plus, it’s the type of product that people will continue to purchase without having to keep bugging them. doTERRA is one of the fastest growing companies right now and this really is the best time to start. In just 2.5 years, my husband was able to leave his engineering job thanks to doTERRA. And I did all that while staying home with my four kiddos. The opportunity is amazing!

Because of the popularity of the product though, it looks like this is a pretty time and energy consuming direct-sales job. Consultants seem to do their best work at home-parties. However, there are consumers who seek this product out so hosting virtual parties and keeping an online presence would probably benefit a seller too. It seems that the key to success with Pampered Chef products starts with personality, specifically an outgoing and bubbly one.
Another thought - this has nothing to do with direct sales but as an RN there are actually some pretty lucrative work from home opportunities that you might want to look into if you're interested in using your education, just not having to deal with the commute. Two of these are working from home as a nurse auditor or a care advisor. Basically, you can use your knowledge to give advice remotely and get paid well to do it. One site I use to look for work-from-home jobs is FlexJobs, but there are SO many out there (and many that don't cost anything- FlexJobs requires a membership). Indeed is another place to look.
http://www.idahofallsmagazine.com/2014/12/demystifying-Melaleuca does NOT fit any of the descriptions about multi-level marketing. Best double check. 😀 We had to. We thought it was until we looked closer. Opening Online Shopping Accounts! Not a “home parties” company, no inventory, and no delivering of products. Just a website! Best HOME BASED Business we have ever found. And we have been LOOKING! Thanks.
A few noteworthy points on this list… The only companies considered for this list are U.S.A. based; and if you click on each and every company linked above, what you will not find should be as interesting to you (and as revealing) as what you will find. There are no travel companies, only two technology companies (ACN and 5LINX), just one service company (Legal Shield), and 22 health and wellness companies. Even Amway, whose core product line still includes soap, really got started by way of the wellness revolution! Read this book by Paul Zane Pilzer and you’ll understand why nutrition, weight management, and skincare products continue to drive the trends in the network marketing industry to this day.
Bro, I have worked for few MLM companies in the past with mixed results. However, currently I am into stock trading and trying my hands at online marketing as well. Personally, I feel I can make a space for myself there. But frankly, you need a successful person with great attitude to guide you and mentor you at the initial phase at least. Can you play that role for me?
In March I joined an MLM company and I’m lost… my first reaction to network marketing was I’m not a sales person, to which I was told it’s not about sales but about building relationships. The other thing that makes me crazy is I see a lot of folks who appear so fake with their bubbly “everything is coming up roses and bubble gum” that I cringe. I’m honest to a fault and happy but not giddy. I feel like I have writers block in that I’m not sure what direction to take to get my business going, the struggle is real right now… Any thoughts or suggestions I can take away.
AIM seems like a great company. My Daily Choice pays up to 85% commissions with no spillover. We also have a commission called “Leadership Check matching” where you can earn up to 30% commissions off of the leaders in your organization, from their monthly income. So, if you have a leader making $10,000 a month, you would get $3000. My Daily Choice also has cash back travel, powerful sublingual sprays that absorb 80% better than pills and capsules, and Brain Bears and Brain Fuel Plus nutrition for brain health. My Daily Choice is rocking Asia! Thanks again for the comment.
Great list and I love receiving your emails for information as a home based business. I am independent consultant with Mannatech Australasia. We offer a range of Weightloss and Wellness products based on real food technology. I invite you all to pop over to my site where i have some information about our products. I am always interested to hear from other women who would like to work from home. I have just recently learned that ‘women setting up business from home is the fastest growing sector in the Australian economy’. Thank you and all the best
Market America is just as known for their massive discounted products portal as they are for their crazy rich CEOs. I’m talking Forbes list, mansion in Biscayne Bay and penthouse in Manhattan, celeb bffs, and giant yachts rich…all thanks to MLM. They’ve hit their fair share of SEC-shaped road blocks, but Market America is still going strong at #29 on the DSN Global 100.

I joined in the mid-90’s under a Dr that paid my way. We were somewhere in Paul Orberson’s dowline, below an AR kid making $80K+/month. I didn’t actually sign anyone as a rep, and just enjoyed doing the pitch to the crowd in the hotels, restaurants, and eventually auditoriums. I got paid by the Dr to tell the “long distance” story, and he went all the way to there top tier in under a year.

An analysis of 32 income disclosure statements from direct selling companies by TruthInAdvertising.org found that 80 percent of distributors, or people selling their products, grossed less than $1,200 per year before expenses. At about half of those companies, the majority of distributors made no money at all. "Given that context, any income claim that expressly states or implies that this is a way for someone to gain financial freedom, to become wealthy, travel the world, become a stay-at-home parent is just false and deceptive," says Bonnie Patten, executive director for TruthInAdvertising.org.
Some 20.5 million people were involved in direct selling in the U.S. in 2016, according to the Direct Selling Association, the national trade association for companies that market products and services directly to consumers through an independent sales force. (While many direct selling companies use an MLM model, not all do, according to the DSA.) Recruits pound the pavement hawking everything from candles to essential oils and weight-loss drinks. Some popular, newer companies include Rodan + Fields (skincare products), LuLaRoe (apparel) and Scentsy (scented products).
Our starter kit is $99 and we offer you the option of hosting a party in order to  put the hostess rewards towards the purchase of the kit. The average home party is a $500 party which would earn you $90 in free product that you could decide to cash in for a $90 kit coupon so the up-front investment is incredibly reasonable, and potentially free (minus tax & shipping).

The uniqueness of the Ambit Energy is the company does not seek to create a lot of noise about it nor promises to create any insane innovations. It just offers simple services to the people such as of providing gas service to home or electricity and all these at a cheaper rate than its competitors. It offers people an exceptional opportunity to save money and this approach does work.
I’d like to point out a few things: statistically something like 96% of businesses fail within the first 5-10 years, which is a much more impactful loss, both financially and time wise, than the few hundred dollars one puts into whatever product they’re using in MLM. So realistically the success rate as a “self employed business owner” with MLM is probably a bit better than it is with launching a traditional business, or at least consistent with it. It takes discipline and tenacity that many people don’t have- that’s why they chose to remain employees in the first place.

I'm surprised not to see Perfectly Posh on the list. They offer natural, and vegan skin care and pampering products that are budget friendly. The startup is only $99, no inventory requirements, low 6 month minimums, and a minimum of 20% commissions with reachable promotions in rank and pay. You get a ton of full size products when you sign up, plus a free website, and other marketing support materials. The sisterhood and teamwork is like nothing else I have ever experienced.

As far as the retirement saving crisis is concerned, more and more people are coming to terms with the fact that they probably aren’t going to be able to save enough money to just sit around and slowly deplete their nest egg from age 62 to 100.  With the average 50 year-old estimated to have less than $50,000 in retirement savings, there is an obvious need to find alternative ways to either save more or generate supplemental income starting now, and continuing throughout retirement.  Moving beyond just the dollars and cents, boomers are growing tired of feeling guilty or bad about their past savings habits and are interested in moving towards possible solutions.

I partnered with a Health and Wellness company that has been on the BBB with an A+ rating for the last 28 years. Their products are free of harsh chemicals and believe it or not are products that absolutely every person uses in their homes, just healthier and safer versions of cleaners, beauty products and now their weight loss line. Our entire business can be done online, from hosting presentations to enrollments and even our trainings are online. Even our customers earn money, not just our employees! What could be better? Healthier, safer, make money using, make money sharing, completely safe around children, and the company is soooooo supportive. I had an issue with one of business partners and her enrollemnt she was trying to get signed up, I literally hopped on the computer and sat in a chat with a customer servie representative from the company and they figured it all out in a matter of minutes. This is a truly residual income business, I am still making money for my first product introduction in June of last year, that is almost a year of getting paid for the same thing every month!!!! This company could not be any more mommy friendly with hours that work around when you need them, easy access to support and a system so easy your kids could make the money for you! Check out my webpage http://www.changingyourfuture4ever.com or contact me directly for more information collista.lewingdon@changingyourfuture4ever.com and lets change your future for ever!
